That’s one long bench

I was at a friend’s house and when I was leaving, I noticed that a bench they used to have was no longer by the door. They said that the previous one had broken, and they couldn’t find a new one they liked. I offered to build them one and this is the result.

This bench is just over 8 feet long. The lumber came from Morningside Camps and Cottages (www.morningsidecamps.com) in Minerva NY. The seat is 2 1/4 inches thick and about 18 inches high. It’s all pine but with the thickness of the materials, it’s plenty sturdy. It has a light, honey stain and a polyurethane finish. The seat is on a 5 degree angle and the back is at a 15 degree angle. I think it came out quite comfortable (for a bench). I also like the curve of the back of the legs.

Now the kids have a place to sit while they wait for the bus.

Small outdoor bench

A few years ago, a friend gave me some walnut logs. It was the first time I used my Alaskan Saw Mill to cut them up. As a thank you, I made this bench for him out of the wood he gave me. It had a large crack in it so I filled the crack with epoxy and then added some splints (they look like dog biscuits) to ensure the split didn’t open up any more. It has a durable finish made for the outdoors. I have a couple of more piece of walnut like this if your interested.

Large Oak Bench with storage

I made a bench for my friends at McArdles Restaurant ( https://www.mcardlesfairport.com/) for their waiting room. This bench is made from solid oak. It measures 8 feet long, 19 1/2 inches wide and 19 inches tall. The top lifts up to reveal a large amount of storage within. It has a clear satin polyurethane finish.

Walnut slab bench

A while back I had built a bench for a customer but they moved some things around and wanted to make it shorter. They actually wanted me to cut the original up. I just couldn’t bring myself to do that so I convinced them that it would be better if I just built them a new bench. The seat of this bench is made from 1 piece of walnut and measures about 55″ x 16″ x 1 1/2″. The bench itself is 19″ high.

This is the bench that I originally built for a customer but then they moved some things around and needed it to be shorter. Instead of cutting this one up, I built them a new one. The top is made up from several pieces of walnut and measures 6 feet long, 16 inches wide and 1 1/4 thick. The bench is 18 1/2 inches high.
